2005 Xmas Reunion

Here we go again. This thing is becoming quite the nice little gathering. Welcome once again to the site of the CPA Christmas Reunion Party. This will be the 3rd year in a row that we have filled up the Palace from wall to wall…and the 8th Annual Reunion. If you are “slim with a tilted brim”, then you definitely do NOT want to miss out this year.

It’s hard to believe that it was 4 long years ago that the entire party was kicked out of JJ’s a little after midnight chanting C-P-A…..C-P-A. (RIP JJ Rossy’s). Since then we have grown to the point that one of the only bars in town large enough to accommodate us is the Palace.

I was told by Palace management that we had about 1000 people in the bar throughout the night last year. Obviously we will expect the same and more this year. Just out of curiosity I called around to a few bars this year, including the main spots in Bedford. The largest spot in Bedford is actually Brewsters because they can take out all of the pool tables leaving a large empty room. Their max capacity is still under 600 people so for all of you that have suggested that we move the party to Bedford….it’s official. It is not physically possible….yet still a great idea.

I feel like it doesn’t matter what bar we use, because it’s still going to be the same crowd no matter which venue we choose. So because the Palace has been good to us in the past, we will be headed back there again. Here are the details….

VENUE: New Palace

DATE: Wednesday, December 21st, 2005

TIME: 9:30pm - Close

COVER: $4.00

DRINK SPECIALS:

9:30pm –1:00am 1:00am – Close

Bar Shots & Draft: $2.25 $3.25

Local Bottled Beer: $3.25 $3.25

As always, we wanted to keep the event on a day that the Palace is normally closed so that we can have the place to ourselves (because we need the space!) and get good drink specials. The drink prices have gone up a bit this year because I’m told that drink costs have increased a couple times over the past year. The cost of labour has increased as well, so that’s fine….whatever….$2.25 up from $1.75 is fine. Not much difference. I also tried to keep the date as close to Xmas as possible so that people coming home from away can make it here on time. So to all of you locals, you have between now and December 21st to get that all important next day off work…or at least the morning. And for anybody who’s away, it’s time to book your flights.

Be sure to get there early as there was quite the line-up last year. Doors open at 9:30.

The CPA Road Hockey Classic was a large success last year and we raised some money for charity as well as donated a bunch of food to the food bank. This year is promising to be bigger and better with over 100 CPA grads competing so try to make it out to Beechville on December 17th to cheer on the Outlaws, who are perennial favorites once again. Congrats have to go out to the Generals who upset the Outlaws in the final last year handing them their first ever franchise loss. I feel however that we’ve taken the right steps in the off-season to re-think our strategy and will be out full tilt this December. But don’t take it from me…Scotty Bowman was heard this morning on SportsCentre stating that the Outlaws are likely “the finest street hockey team ever assembled”. A similar comment was made last year by Glen Sather or “Slats” as I call him.

So….it’s $2.25 drinks for most of the night….which is pretty cheap. Ladies get your short skirt and long jacket ready….and gentlemen, get your visa/ boxing gloves/ loud mouths/ least ripped underwear / drunk tank bail/ and mustache ready to go.

Remember if you’re drivin’…don’t drink. And if ya drink…don’t drive. – Beastie Boys
